Painting & Drawing Children´s Workshop

For the final workshop of 2024, children of various ages gathered at the Lusaka Contemporary Art Centre to enjoy a day of painting and drawing. Through their artwork, they explored and expressed their personal identities, interpreting the meanings of their names. Each child’s name conveyed a unique significance, including themes of wealth, eagle, lion, love, beauty, strength, gratitude, and storytelling. These symbolic meanings were beautifully reflected in their creative expressions, offering a glimpse into how they viewed themselves.

Art plays a vital role in children’s early development. Art activities develop brain capacity in early childhood, it supports the development of cognitive, social-emotional, and multi-sensory skills. As children progress into primary school, upper primary school, secondary school, and beyond, art provides opportunities for brain development, mastery, self-esteem, and creativity. The process of creating, exploring, discovering, and experimenting has great value for young children.
